J. Robert King scholarship fund drive now under way
A fund drive is under way for the J. Robert King Memorial
Scholarship fund, which was established at the time of his death
in 1994. The scholarship is used to provide financial support to
talented, deserving students in the Department of Music.
Prof. King came to the University in 1946 and played an
active role in the musical community of the campus and state for
nearly a half century. He established the UD Marching Band,
created orchestras, taught theory and music history courses,
twice served as acting chairperson of the department and
supervised final plans for the Amy E. du Pont Music Building.
He was a recipient of UD's excellence-in-teaching award and
the Medal of Distinction and was inducted into the Delaware Music
Educators Hall of Fame.
