Diversity workshops announced
The President's Commission to Promote Racial and Cultural
Diversity and the Diversity Education Task Force will present
this spring a series of workshops on "Welcoming and Appreciating
Diversity."
A one-day or half-day version of the experiential workshop
will show participants how to identify the misinformation they
have about themselves and others, how to heal the emotional
wounds resulting from mistreatment and how to reclaim the power
to challenge all forms of discrimination.
According to Judith Gibson, affirmative action, "We invite
all members of the University community to attend one of the
sessions and join us for an enjoyable and empowering day."
All spring sessions will be held in the Trabant University
Center. During February, the programs are scheduled from 8:30
a.m.-noon, Thursday, Feb. 13, in Room 219; 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.,
Saturday, Feb. 22, in a room to be assigned; and 8:30 a.m.-noon,
Wednesday, Feb. 26, in Room 227.
During March, the programs will be presented from 8:30 a.m.-
3 p.m., Sunday, March 2; and 8:30-noon, Wednesday, March 12, and
Monday, March 24, all in Room 219.
In April, all three of the sessions are half-day programs.
They are scheduled from 8:30-noon, Friday, April 11, in Room 227;
and Monday, April 21, and Saturday, April 26, in Room 219.
Two half-day sessions in May are planned from 8:30 a.m.-
noon, on Tuesday, May 13, and Friday, May 30, both in Room 219.
According to Gibson, the response of participants to
previous diversity workshops has been overwhelmingly positive.
