'We Are Your Sisters' in Mitchell Hall on Feb. 27
We Are Your Sisters, a stirring drama that recounts the
stories of African-American women who endured the degradation of
slavery and met the challenges of freedom, will be presented at 8
p.m., Thursday, Feb. 27, in Mitchell Hall.
Inspired by the authentic words of former slave women and
their experiences before, during and after the Civil War, the
play is a salute to the courageous spirit of African-American
women.
"The images are poignant: milk placed in a wooden bowl on
the floor; children eating from oyster shellsthe consequences
when a hungry slave would be caught stealing a sugar cube," a
review in the New York Beacon said last May.
The play is based on the book We Are Your Sisters: Black
Women in the 19th Century by Dorothy Sterling, adapted by Ardelle
Striker and Stephanie Von Hirschberg.
Individual tickets are $15 for the general public, $10 for
UD faculty, staff, alumni and senior citizens and $6 for children
and students.
To purchase tickets or for more information, visit any UD
box office or call UD1-HENS.
Part of the UD Performing Arts Series, the performance also
is sponsored by the UD Center for Black Culture, the Cultural
Programming Advisory Board and the Christina Cultural Arts
Center.
