Information session set on advanced tech centers
An information session about the state of Delaware's
Advanced Technology Center (ATC) program will be held from 8:30
a.m.-2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30, at the Luna I. Mishoe Science
Annex Auditorium on the campus of Delaware State University in
Dover.
The ATC program is designed to promote strategic
partnerships between Delaware industry and academia that will
enhance the state's technology base and promote the creation of
high-tech jobs through new technology development and
commercialization.
The upcoming session will provide an overview of the program
and answer questions about the current Request for Proposals. It
also will offer an opportunity for networking among potential
partners representing both the private and academic sectors. A
tour through a recently completed science facility will help
participants learn more about Delaware State University's
research program, and there will be information about the three
centers selected last year.
The University of Delaware is involved in all of the first
three centers established by the state last year. These include
the Advanced Technology Center for Medical Devices, the
Fraunhofer Resource Center-Delaware and the Delaware Agricultural
Biotechnology Center.
Proposed center partnerships may include Delaware
businesses, Delaware-based, post-secondary academic institutions
and high technology-related, not-for-profit organizations. Non-
state matching resources are required.
The Delaware Economic Development Office and the state
Council on Science and Technology, which oversee the ATC program,
have $2 million in grant funds available to establish new centers
this year. Preliminary proposals are due March 3, and final
proposals will be due May 1. New centers will be announced in
August.
There is no cost for the conference and lunch is included.
To register, contact Sally Williams at the Delaware Economic
Development Office, telephone (302) 739-4271, extension 108.
