College of Health and Nursing Sciences, including the
departments of Medical Technology; Nutrition and Dietetics;
and Physical Education, Athletics and Recreation; and the
Biomechanics and Movement Science Program; and
the College of Education, the College of Human Resources
and the College of Urban Affairs and Public Policy will merge
to form a new college, temporarily called the College of Human
Resources, Education and Public Policy, and including the
departments of Individual and Family Studies; Textiles, Design
and Consumer Economics; Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional
Management; Educational Development; and Educational Studies,
and the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy.
The reorganization will be effective July 1.
In other activity, the trustees approved resolutions
establishing the Edward C. Davis Professorship Fund as an
endowment to support professorships in the Department of Civil
Engineering;
confirming the F.Y. 1998 capital funds request to the
state;
authorizing the contract with Follett College Stories to
manage the University Bookstore; and
authorizing the president to confer degrees at Winter
Commencement Jan. 4.
Also at the meeting, University President David P. Roselle
presented an overview of financial aid issues.
In board business, trustee R.R.M. Carpenter III was
re-elected to a six-year term, and a resolution was passed saluting
Rachel E. Grier, trustee from 1978 to 1996, for her service to
the board and the University.
