The big boiler

     A 100,000-pound boiler, manufactured by the English Boiler
Co. in Richmond, was delivered to campus on a 100-foot-long truck
in November. The unit, with a capacity to produce 65,000 pounds
of steam per hour, will bring the campus Central Heating Plant
capacity up to 265,000 pounds per hour once it's installed and
operational. The increased capacity is needed to handle
additional demands from MBNA America and Gore halls. In addition,
the new boiler will provide back-up capacity for other heating
systems, should they shut down.
