Campus effort earns landscape award
The Grove," near Alison Hall, and the work of Sam Jones and
Tom Taylor, both grounds division, were recognized by Landscape
Management magazine when the University of Delaware was selected
as one of the "LM 100."
The first-time award was given to the "biggest, brightest
and the best of the green industry," and UD was selected as one
of the top 25 in the "grounds facilities" category. Based on a
variety of criteria, the most important was "national visibility
in the green industry itself and in the general public's eye."
As the magazine pointed out, Taylor and Jones manage 400
acres of athletic fields and landscaped areas, with composting a
priority of the campus grounds program.
The magazine cited "The Grove," where approximately 200
yards of leaf compost were used to complete the "two-acre stand
of beech trees, ground covers, walkways, nightlighting and
seating areas."
Landscape Management, known as "The Voice of the Green
Industry," reaches more than 50,000 professional turf and
landscape companies and managers.
