Economics series lecture today in Purnell Hall
The Department of Economics' free, public seminar series
continues today with Stephen Ross, Sterling Professor Economics
and Finance at the Yale School of Management, speaking on "Agency
Relations in Finance," from 3:30-5 p.m., in 118 Purnell Hall.
A widely published author in finance and economics, Ross is
best known as the inventor of the Arbitrage Pricing Theory. His
early work involved principal-agent models. He also serves as
cochairperson of Roll & Ross Asset Management Corp., which uses
the technology he has helped to develop to oversee the management
of over $6 billion in equity investments worldwide. He is a
graduate of California Institute of Technology and holds a
doctorate from Harvard University.
His talk is cosponsored by the Department of Finance.
George Akerlof, a professor at the University of California
at Berkeley and a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution is
the series final speaker. He will present a program on
"Macroeconomics of Low Inflation," from 3:30-5 p.m., Tuesday,
Nov. 19, in 118 Purnell Hall.
A graduate of Yale University with a doctorate from the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he has published
extensively and is known for his frequently cited article, "The
Market for 'Lemons,' Quality Uncertainty and the Market
Mechanism," which appeared in the Quarterly Journal of Economics.
A senior adviser for the Brookings Panel on Economic Activity,
Akerlof serves as vice president of the American Economic
Association.
