Staff flu shots
An additional day of flu shots will be available to faculty
and staff from 9:30 a.m.-noon, Tuesday, Nov. 12, in the Student
Health Service in Laurel Hall. Cost is $10, and payment must be
made by cash or check. No Wellness Dollars will be accepted.
The inoculations will be administered by appointment only.
To reserve a time, employees must call 831-8388, leave the
requested time, and a secretary will call back and confirm the
appointment.
Hypertension info
A program on hypertension will be presented from noon-1
p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13, in Room 215 McDowell Hall. The
presentation will provide information about hypertension, its
causes, risk factors, signs and symptoms and treatment.
Cost is $10 Wellness Dollars or $10 cash.

Menopause help
Two programs related to menopause are being offered in
November for University employees.
On Tuesday, Nov. 12, Jenny Hughes, Employee Wellness Center,
will present "Menopause: Information and Health Promotion for
Midlife Women," which includes an overview of physical and
psychological changes during perimenopause, including
pharmacological interventions.
On Friday, Nov. 22, the theme will be "Menopause:
Alternative Strategies and Nutritional Concerns." This program
will feature two speakers. Judy Hendricks, nursing, will focus on
alternatives to estrogen replacement therapy for those unable or
unwilling to take HRT after menopause. She also will focus on
herbs, exercise and other pharmacological agents. Nutritionist
Marianne Carter, Employee Wellness Center, will discuss
nutritional concerns, including increased calcium and tips to
maintain health through proper diet.
Both presentations will take place noon-1 p.m. in Room 216
McDowell Hall. The cost is 10 Wellness Dollars for both
workshops.
Participants are invited to bring lunch. Drinks will be
provided.

The programs are cosponsored by the Employee Wellness
Center, Office of Women's Affairs and Faculty and Staff
Assistance Program.
Asthma seminar
An allergy-asthma prevention seminar will be presented from
noon-1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 22, in Room 215 McDowell Hall.
The program will provide an overview of the prevention and
interventions to control asthma and allergies. Information will
be provided about common symptoms, triggers and medicinal
treatments for the problem.
Brown baggers are welcome. Drinks will be provided.
