Blue Hen cadets win '10 Miler'
Eight cadets from the University's Army ROTC Fightin' Blue
Hen Battalion won the annual Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA)
10 Miler race for the fourth year in a row-the first ROTC or
active duty team to accomplish this feat.
The 12th annual AUSA 10 Miler is the largest certified race
in the country, with more than 9,000 participants.
It was established to instill competition, generate
camaraderie and promote team work.
The Delaware team, wearing shirts featuring YoUDee and the
words, "Who said chickens couldn't fly?," averaged a 6.03-mile
pace, and team captain, senior Thomas Spahr, was the fastest
cadet in the race.
Other team members were junior Phil Bergeron, junior Thomas
Eybye, sophomore Eric Evans, sophomore Richard Gilpin, junior
Jeffrey Glines, senior William Kilcoyne and senior Jabari McCoy.
The UD cadre team participating in the race consisted of
Staff Sgt. Gerald Barber, Joseph Burkhart, Russell Morris, Maj.
Joseph Murphy, Capt. Shawn Phillips and Lt. Col. Paul Thorson.
