Progress continues on Perkins
Renovation of the Perkins Student Center continues. The west side
of the building's first floor, including the Scrounge dining area, is
open for the fall semester.
The Center Court will not be open; however, the Scrounge has been
enlarged and new food selections, as well as additional cashiers and
serving areas, have been added.
The Review office area has been re-occupied and WVUD radio will
be ready for occupancy by mid-September. Handicapped accessibility,
through the building elevator, will allow students with disabilities
entry to these student organization sites. Office space for Dining
Services is being completed in the front of the building's first
floor, facing Academy Street. In mid-September, the Dining Services
administrative offices will relocate from Graham Hall, where urban
affairs and public policy will occupy their existing space.
Improvements have been made to all mechanical systems throughout
the building. In addition, there will be new windows, fire alarm
systems, painting, carpeting and upgrades of all utilities.
The first-floor restrooms, currently accessible only from the
Scrounge, also have been upgraded and enlarged.
Work continues on the east side of the building, as well as on
the basement and the second floor. These areas are expected to be
completed by February 1997.
