Library electronic lunch programs begin Sept. 12
The University Library has scheduled six lunchtime brown-bag
presentations to highlight interesting electronic resources on the
World Wide Web. The presentations will be held from 12:10 to 1 p.m.,
Thursdays, in the Class of 1941 Lecture Room in the Morris Library.
The campus community is invited to attend any or all of the sessions.
Sept. 12, Campaign Watching- Offers a look at Internet sites that
have information on the upcoming elections. The focus is
mainly on the presidential election, but also includes local,
state and congressional races, as well as voting history,
statistics and convention/party platforms. Host: Edward Adams
Jr., reference.
Sept. 26, Finding Health Information Online-Provides details on
where to find information for your own health when you need
it. The session also will cover cancer information, chronic
diseases and wellness. Host: Sandra Millard, library public
services.
Oct. 3, Keeping Current: "All the News That's Fit to Digitize"-
Includes information on how to stay up-to-date on all the
latest news, weather and reviews by using Internet resources.
Host: Rebecca Knight, reference.
Oct. 17, Buying Books on the Web-Is a look at resources for
buying books on the Web. While the focus will be on
out-of-print books, it will include some in-print materials as
well. The session will include things to be aware of when
buying out-of-print books and the ethical issues involved.
Host: Craig Wilson, library collections.
Nov. 7, Virtual Picassos: "Art on the Web"-Includes a wealth of
colorful sites on the Internet, including art exhibits
designed specifically for Web viewing, museum and gallery
information, art libraries, other information sources and
sites for artists to discuss issues with other artists. Host:
Iris Snyder, special collections.
Nov. 21, Electronic Threads: "Cyberboutiques and Costume
Collections on the Web"-Covers information on how to shop for
new fashions and tour textile and costume museums on the
Internet. Host: Linda Stein, reference.
Reservations are not necessary and participants may bring their
lunch.
