Days of Caring in September

Although the University's 1996 United Way campaign doesn't begin
until Oct. 1, taking part in the Days of Caring this month is another
way of giving to the United Way of Delaware's annual campaign,
according to Cathy Skelley, housing and conference facilities, who is
coordinating the University's participation in this segment of the
United Way's annual fund-raising activities.
The program links employees with volunteer assignments at United
Way member and affiliated agencies now through Sept. 30.
Employees will have an option to volunteer their services-during
evening or weekend projects-directly or indirectly to an agency
through such activities as reading to children, serving meals, helping
with special fund-raising events or working on fix-up jobs to improve
the appearance of a building or surroundings. Participation in special
drives or collections-for canned food, children's books or school
supplies-is another option.
Last year, the United Way of Delaware Days of Caring program
involved more than 3,600 volunteers, who contributed 9,600 hours for
the completion of 400 service projects.
For more information about getting involved in evening or weekend
projects at United Way agencies, employees or employee groups should
