Volunteer opportunities at fair for both students, employees

Staff and students will have the opportunity to explore options
for satisfying volunteer work and internships at the Volunteer
Opportunities Fair, to be held from 3-5 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 2, in the
Rodney Room of the Perkins Student Center.
Co-sponsored by the Delaware Association of Nonprofit Agencies
and the University's Career Services Center, the fair will provide a
forum for representatives from approximately 30 New Castle County
agencies to share information about their organizations and the people
they serve.
Fair participants will learn more about the volutneer community
and about specific volunteer and internship positions in their area of
interest.
According to Marianne Green, Career Services, the need for
volunteers is increasing dramatically as a result of reductions in
funding.
"The Volunteer Opportunities Fair offers the chance to learn how
to contribute our skills, energy and good will to help shape a more
effective and caring community," Green said. "Volunteers also find
that their involvement in community projects can result in networking
opportunities, exposure to new skills and resume enhancement."
Some of the participating agencies that will be present at the
fair are the Delaware Coalition for Literacy, Delaware Safety Council,
Delaware Theatre Company, Bayard House, Easter Seal Society, Tri State
Bird Rescue and Research Inc. and the Delaware Volunteer Fireman's
Association.
