United Way: Making it work - D. Allan Waterfield

For the past four years, I've been on the board of directors of
the Delaware Division of the American Lung Association. It's a group
that includes medical professionals and volunteers from a number of
backgrounds. Many times, our volunteers are people who know someone
who has had lung disease, maybe even a parent.
"Some of the things I'm involved with on the board include long-
range planning and budget issues. My main interest is the
comprehensive youth health education program that involves educating
kids, primarily, on the effects of smoking. It's something that I
believe is important, and, therefore, I'm willing to make a
committment to it.
"I'm also involved in health education at the University, so it's
something I'm both personally and professionally interested in. The
end reward in any effort is the product and, in this case, the product
is better education and better health for a lot of people if we are
successful."
