Memorial service scheduled for William W. Breslin III
The College of Physical Education, Athletics and Recreation will
hold a memorial service to honor the late William Walsh Breslin III,
retired associate director of recreation/intramural programs, at 3
p.m., Sunday, Nov. 5, in Room 125 Clayton Hall. Mr. Breslin died July
1.
A native of Troy, N.Y., he was raised and educated in Rutherford,
N.J., where he was active in athletic programs at the interscholastic
and community YMCA levels.
He attended Ohio Wesleyan University, where he participated in
both football and baseball, eventually developing an interest in
intramural athletics, club sports and recreational programs.
After military service in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean
War, Mr. Breslin received his bachelor's and master degree's from the
University .
He worked for several years as a physical education teacher in
Newark-area public schools and then joined the University staff in
1963 as director of recreation and intramurals.
During his career of more than 27 years at the University, Mr.
Breslin was involved in academic and intramural programs, New Student
Orientation and academic advisement. He also served on a number of
college, University, community, state and professional organizations.
He retired from the University on Jan. 1, 1991.
The family has requested that contributions in Mr. Breslin's
memory be made to the University of Delaware Willam W. Breslin III
Memorial Fund for student scholarships or to the American Cancer
Society.
