Lecture on evolution in Pearson Hall

Darwin on Trial: Can You Trust the Argument for Evolution?" is
the topic of a free, public lecture by Phillip E. Johnson, Jefferson
E. Peyser Professor of Law at the University of California at
Berkeley, scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 13, in Pearson Hall.
Johnson has published two books, Darwin on Trial, and more
recently, Reason in the Balance: The Case against Naturalism in
Science, Law and Education. In both publications, Johnson argues
against the neo-Darwinian theory and critiques the naturalism that
characterizes modern science.
A reviewer of Reason in the Balance wrote, "There are plenty of
critics of 'Godless science,' but few are more intelligent (or better
writers) than Johnson, none more generous and gentlemanly in
acknowledging their opponents' strengths."
A graduate of Harvard University and the University of Chicago
Law School, he has been a law clerk for both Chief Justice Roger
Traynor of the California Supreme Court and Chief Justice Earl Warren
of the United States Supreme Court.
While visiting the University, Johnson also will give a lecture
on "The Grand Metaphysical Story of Science" for faculty members and
graduate students, at 4 p.m., Nov. 13, in Clayton Hall.
Both appearances are sponsored by Beta Beta Beta, Campus Crusade
for Christ and InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Omicron Delta Kappa
and the University Honors Program.
