Variety of events planned for Parents Day, Oct. 28

     Families and friends of University students are invited to visit
the University on Saturday, Oct. 28, for Parents Day. Visitors can get
a feel for the University and what it has to offer in a wide range of
areas from academics to football to theatre.
     Several special Parents Day lectures and demonstrations are
scheduled in the Bob Carpenter Center:
        * A registration area will welcome parents to the University
          from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., and parents will be able to pick up pre-
          ordered tickets there as well.
        * A coffee and question session with deans from the
          University's eight undergraduate colleges, as well as
          administrators and student life personnel, is scheduled from
          9-9:45 a.m.
        * Computer demonstrations and tours of the University's
          electronic campus will explore how information technologies
          enhance living and learning at UD, from 9-11:30 a.m.
        * A presentation on graduate studies at UD and graduate
          opportunities at other institutions will be held from 9-9:45
          a.m.
        * The National Pan Hellenic will present a Unity Step Team
          performance from 9:45-10 a.m.
        * From 10-10:45, UD President David P. Roselle will give
          welcoming remarks, and the UD Marching Band, cheerleaders,
          YoUDee and the Precision Dance Team will set spirits soaring
          with a pre-game show.
        * Parents may choose from an informational session on how
          students can earn academic credits through one of the
          University's study abroad programs or learn about career
          preparation and the current job market, from 10:45-11:30
          a.m.

     Activities for which tickets are needed in advance include a pre-
game luncheon, the Delaware vs. Maine football game (with seats
available in a special parents section), a buffet dinner from 5-7
p.m., and four entertainment events: concerts by UD vocal ensembles at
4:30 and 9 p.m. in Pearson Hall; performances by The Capitol Steps at
7 and 9 p.m. in Mitchell Hall; a Black Student Theatre production of
Purlie at 2 and 8 p.m. in 100 Wolf Hall; and a Professional Theatre
Training Program production of Private Lives at 7:30 p.m. in Hartshorn
Theatre.
     Other free activities that day include an art exhibition, "Lazlo
Moholy-Nagy: From Budapest to Berlin: 1914-1923" at the University
Gallery in Old College from noon-5 p.m.; a guided tour of the
University's permanent collection of minerals, gems, stone carvings
and rare specimens in Penny Hall from 1:30-4 p.m.; and an open house
at the Center for Black Culture, 192 South College Ave., from 4-7 p.m.
