Moving on; Student selected as mascot for Houston Rockets

Robert (Bob) Boudwin, the University student who first donned the
YoUDee costume when it was introduced two years ago, is leaving the
University to accept the position of professional mascot for the
Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association.
Boudwin, 21, is a marketing major with a 3.3 grade point average.
He is originally from Blue Bell, Pa., and his parents, Paul and Donna
Boudwin, now live in Scottsdale, Ariz.
YoUDee was introduced as the University of Delaware's Fightin'
Blue Hen mascot in 1993, and since then, Boudwin has shaped the Hen's
persona. "Over the past two years, YoUDee has made more than 500
appearances on and off campus. Whether at a football game, birthday
party, wedding rehearsal or corporate promotional program, Bob Boudwin
brought a creative and humorous flare to each appearance," Edward
Stoner, coordinator of the mascot program in the UD Office of Public
Relations, said.
"I can't believe they are going to pay me for doing something I
love so much," Boudwin said.
"We are excited about adding someone as talented as Robert to our
team and expect great things from him," Mike Burch, director of
marketing for the Houston Rockets, said.
"Bob, as YoUDee, brought a new level of excitement to Delaware
athletics. He has set the standard against which YoUDees of the future
will be judged. Just as YoUDee has become the best mascot in the North
Atlantic Conference, I suspect that Bob will give the Rockets the best
mascot in pro basketball," said Edgar Johnson, director of athletics
at UD.
"Robert has done an outstanding job crafting YoUDee into a
wonderfully entertaining ambassador for the University of Delaware. He
has improved with each year and appearance, taking full advantage of
the University's resources and training. We expect the mascot program
to continue to flourish in the years to come," UD President David
Roselle said.
Some of Boudwin's accomplishments during his years as YoUDee
include:
        * First-place mascot (from a field of 26) at the Northeast
Regional Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA) summer
          camp in 1994.
        * Eleventh-place mascot nationally for UCA championship in
          1994.
        * Selected as West Coast mascot instructor for UCA's summer
          camps in 1995.
In addition to his responsibilities as YoUDee, Boudwin has been
an on-air personality for WVUD (91.3 FM), served as "J-Bear" for WJBR
(99.5 FM) and had a brief stint as "Rocky Bluewinkle" with the
Wilmington Blue Rocks.
