'Romeo and Juliet' performances set in Mitchell Hall

     Actors from the London Stage will present three performances of
Romeo and Juliet at the University in November-one of them especially
for members of the UD community.
     The University community performance is scheduled at 7:30 p.m.,
Tuesday, Nov. 7, and the performances will be in Mitchell Hall.
     Tickets for the Nov. 7 performance are $5 for UD students and $10
for others with UD ID. Tickets for the Nov. 10-11 performances are $10
for UD students and $15 for others with University ID and $20 for the
general public. A special discount rate is available for subscribers
to the Professional Theatre Training Program's 1995-96 season.
     Tickets are on sale now at the Hartshorn Theatre, Bob Carpenter
Center and Perkins Student Center box offices.
     Actors from the London Stage is a troupe of classically trained
actors who travel the world presenting the works of William
Shakespeare. The troupe presented Hamlet at the University in 1993.
     For the November productions, Patrick Miller will star in the
role of Romeo. Miller, who trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre
School in England, has appeared in Carmen Jones, Macbeth and The
Tempest, as well as many other productions. His television and film
credits include The Bill, Casualty, Prime Suspect 2 and Bad Boys.
     The role of Juliet will be played by Jane Arden, who has appeared
in a number of Shakespearean roles, including Jessica in The Merchant
of Venice and Miranda-Ariel in The Tempest. Arden also has performed
in a number of plays and musicals, including The King and I and Gypsy,
and has appeared on American television in The Strauss Dynasty, about
the life of Johannn Strauss.
     Michael Thomas will appear in the role of Mercutio. In addition
to such roles as Andrea in The Life of Galileo and Rowland Lacy in The
Shoemakers' Holiday, Thomas also has appeared in several television
shows, a series of Shakespearean workshops for the Open University and
the BBC television series Life Without George. He also has taught and
directed at the Central School of Speech and Drama and the British
American Drama Academy and led workshops at the National Theatre.
     The role of Friar Lawrence will be played by Terrence Wilton, who
has toured both the Middle and Far East, appearing in Shakespeare's
The Tempest and The Taming of the Shrew. Over the last 26 years,
Wilton has appeared in numerous plays, ranging from Antony and
Cleopatra and You Never Can Tell to Michael Eliot's Moby Dick.
     The role of Juliet's nurse will be played by Ann Firbank, who has
toured North America, Scandinavia, the Middle and Far East, Australia,
New Zealand, Africa and Norway.
     Romeo and Juliet is sponsored by the Perkins Student Center
Advisory Board and departments of English and Theatre.
