76ers bounce onto campus

     The NBA's Philadelphia 76ers will begin 1995 preseason training
at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 6 in the Bob Carpenter Center.
     According to John Lucas, head coach and general manger, "We are
looking forward to getting back to the business of basketball. We feel
that our move to Delaware will give the basketball fans in another
area a chance to experience what training camp is all about, while
giving us a chance to reach out to a largely untapped business
community for the first time."
     Two special scheduled events include a game between the state of
Delaware Republicans and Democrats, along with some Sixers alumni at 3
p.m., Sunday, Oct. 8, and the UD men's basketball staff clinic prior
to the Sixers practice, at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11.
     The Sixers free public practice schedule is:
        10 a.m.-noon and 7-9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 6
        7-9 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7
        10 a.m.-noon and 5:30-7:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 8
        10 a.m.-noon and 7-9 p.m., Monday, Oct. 9
        10 a.m.-noon and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10
        10 a.m.-noon and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11
        10 a.m.-noon, Thursday, Oct. 12
     From 7-9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, the Grotto Pizza Classic red
and white scrimmage will signal the end of training camp before the
team's first exhibition game against the Detroit Pistons on Oct. 13.
     For the scrimmage, there will be a $2 admission charge for
children and UD students and $5 for adults. All proceeds will go to a
local charity.
     Tickets for the scrimmage are available at all Ticketmaster
outlets and phone centers.
     Training camp at Delaware is sponsored by Browning Ferris
Industries, U.S. Healthcare-Delaware Division, Wilmington Sports and
the Wilmington News-Journal.
