Two senate measures pass

At its October meeting, the University Faculty Senate unanimously
passed two measures.
The senators first accepted the revised procedures for probation
and dismissal for graduate students, which will appear in the Graduate
Catalog. They then passed a resolution supporting a University
decision not to give the Delaware Department of Transportation
research land used by the College of Agricultural Sciences. DelDOT
wanted the land for the construction of a new train station.
Provost Mel Schiavelli told the senators that the price of
library materials has been increasing at 15 percent annually. He urged
them to review serials subscriptions and monographs periodically.
According to John Burmeister, who also spoke to the senators, the
University is included in a recertification program by the National
Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), which is recertifying 302
athletic programs in Division I, studying the areas of governance,
academic integrity, fiscal integrity and committment to equity.
