$155,000 goal; Campaign kickoff set Oct. 9 in Carpenter Center

Food, fun and entertainment will be offered to United Way
solicitors at the University's 1995 United Way Campaign kickoff,
scheduled at 3:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 9, at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Representatives from units throughout the University have been
invited to help launch the campuswide effort.
The program will include a screening of the University's 1995
United Way video, which includes more than a dozen members of the
campus community, and a reception for solicitors and guests in the Bob
Carpenter Club starting at approximately 4 p.m. Entertainment will be
provided by the Student Jazz Ensemble. In addition, the results of the
University's Pacesetters Campaign will be announced.
The pacesetters drive represents contributions from senior-level
administrators who made their contributions prior to the official
kickoff to support and promote the 1995 United Way campaign.
As in past years, the University will conduct an incentive
raffle program to encourage employees to give to or increase their
United Way contributions.
This year's raffle incentives include a donation by Roberta
Campbell, Delaware '65, president of Campbell Travel Center, who has
contributed an $800 credit toward any other travel/vacation
arrangements made through that company. Travel arrangements must be
scheduled within six months of the raffle drawing. There is no cash
equivalent for any unused features.

Eligibility requirements:
The eligibility requirements for the incentive program are:
   * $5 per pay deduction ($120 total) for credit for a trip through
     Campbell Travel Center.
   * $3 per pay deduction ($72 total) for University of Delaware trips
     and
   * $1 per pay deduction ($24 total) for all the other incentives.

The raffle drawings will be conducted Nov. 9. Winners will be
invited to attend the Solicitors Thank You reception hosted by
President David P. Roselle on Nov. 16 to claim their prize.
To participate in the raffle, the individual's contribution must
be given to the unit solicitor and received in the Cashier's Office by
the close of business on Oct. 31, the final day of the campaign.
Participants should note that the Internal Revenue Service
requires that employees who wish to deduct their full United Way
contribution on an itemized tax return must decline to participate in
the raffle in writing when they turn in their pledge cards or
donations.
For employees who take part in the raffle and itemize tax
deductions, the specific amounts contributed to the United Way to
become eligible for the raffle cannot be deducted on one's tax return.
Raffle contributors who do not itemize their tax deductions are
not affected by this IRS ruling.

unit's United Way solicitor.
