New roller skating course this fall
This fall, UD students have an opportunity to enroll in
noncredit, artistic roller skating courses, a new cooperative venture
between the Physical Education Program and the Christiana Skating
Center. The University is among the first in the country to offer such
courses this year.
Two five-week courses in American Compulsory Roller Dance Skating
are to be offered at the Christiana Skating Center.
The first section, teaching students the basics of roller dance
skating, will meet from 1:30-3 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 17-
Oct. 17. The second section, which will refine and build on the basic
skills, will be held at the same days and time, Oct. 22-Dec. 12.
The fee for each course is $50.
The instruction will be led by national champion Richard Veliko,
a certified coach of the U.S. Amateur Confederation of Roller Skating.

Latino reception scheduled Sept. 5
The Campus Diversity Unit, the HOLA student group and the Latino
Caucus are sponsoring a reception and resource fair for 97 Latino
students, the largest group ever of new and continuing undergraduate
and graduate Latino students.
The event will be held from 3-5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 5, in the
Multipurpose Room of the Trabant University Center. A resource fair
will be held during the reception to provide information about various
campus units and organizations.
Members of several University units and a number of students met
during the summer to form committees for the event related to the
program, catering, music and greetings.
According to Elizabeth Bertera, individual and family studies,
"The group wants to make sure that the 97 new Latino students become
aware of the resources that the University offers during their
academic life. This also will be an opportunity for HOLA to recruit
new members and make them feel at home with the various activities
planned for the 1996-97 academic year."
In addition to the formal invitations, members of HOLA have
contacted students by phone, inviting them to the event.
Latino "entremeses" (hors d'oeuvres) and refreshments will be
served.
