Upward Bound
Future scientists in the Upward Bound Math/Science Initiative get
hands-on experience in the UD animal science laboratory where they are
conducting nutrition and growth studies. Shown here are Joe Carnahan,
Middletown High School (front, left) with Jenev Morris, Cape Henlopen
High School; and Anya Hughes, Caesar Rodney High School (rear, left)
with Lauren Grissom, A.I. du Pont High School. Coordinated by Marjorie
Hingston of the Academic Services Center and sponsored by the U.S.
Department of Education, the program serves 40 area high school
students who are interested in careers in math, science or a related
technical field. Students live on campus for six weeks, except
weekends, and take courses in math, science and technical writing.
They also go on field trips and participate in a variety of enrichment
and social events.
