Long-distance graduation

When Bruce Kitchin (right), Delaware '68, was awarded his
master's degree in computer science earlier this month, he was nowhere
near the granting university in Fort Collins, Colo. He received his
degree in Studio B of Pearson Hall, from Stuart Cooper (left), dean of
the UD College of Engineering. Kitchin's ceremony-along with similar
events at three other universities-was uplinked to join the actual
graduation at National Technology University in Colorado. A software
engineer at Hewlett Packard, Kitchin completed his NTU degree in about
five years. A private, accredited, nonprofit institution, NTU is the
leading university worldwide for satellite delivery of advanced
technical education. A participating university, UD is one of 47 top
engineering schools whose faculty teach NTU courses.
