Library releases new 'Collections'
The library has just released Volume IX of Collections, a journal
designed to promote knowledge and use of it's resources.
Published by the UD Library Associates, the 72-page issue
includes the articles "Remarks Introducing Ernest Hemingway in His
Time: An Exhibition" by Richard A. Davison, English; "An Orthodox Poet
and a Liberal Publisher: Henry Francis Lyte to Charles Ollier, 23 June
1821" by Steven Olsen-Smith, a doctoral candidate in the Department of
English; "The Memory of Evil: The Holocaust Testimonies Project" by
David L. Langenberg, associate librarian in the reference department;
and "The Library as Laboratory: Preparing an Edition of Mary Shelley's
Frankenstein Notebooks" by Charles E. Robinson, English.
Collections is distributed to members of the Library Associates,
the friends group of the library, as a benefit of membership.
A cataloged copy of Collections, Vol. IX, is available to be
checked out from the library following standard circulation procedures
and can be found under call number Z881.N5 U5a.

Alumni Day at the Baltimore Zoo
The whole family, from kids to the young at heart, will enjoy the
University of Delaware Day at the Baltimore Zoo, which houses the
number one-ranked-children's zoo in the nation, on Sunday, Aug. 25.
A catered picnic will be served from noon-4 p.m. at the Waterfowl
Lake, and it will include open pit beef, BBQ chicken, hamburgers, hot
dogs, corn on the cob, potato salad, pasta salad, brownies, homemade
cookies, watermelon, soft drinks and beer.
The cost, including admission and the picnic, is $22 for adults,
$12 for children ages 3-15 and free for children under 3. Reservations
and payment should be sent by Aug. 16 to Baltimore Zoo Event, Alumni
Hall, University of Delaware, Newark, DE 19716. Confirmation, tickets
and directions will be sent upon receipt of registration.

Dr. Ruth set for UD book signing
Dr. Ruth will join Ben Yagoda, English, for a
presentation/question-and-answer session related to their latest
collaboration, The Value of Family: A Blueprint for the 21st Century.
The informal program, followed by a book signing, is scheduled at
7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19, in Multipurpose Room A of the Trabant
University Center. Yagoda met Dr. Ruth 10 years ago, and they have
been collaborating ever since. He first wrote her life story, All in a
Lifetime, which was followed up by two other collaborative books: Dr.
Ruth's Guide to Safer Sex and Dr. Ruth Talks to Kids About Sex and
Growing Up.
