Coping with tight airport security

Airport security is tightened whenever there is the slightest
threat of terrorism. Travelers should be prepared and take the
following precautions:

   * Always pack your own bags. Agents will ask who packed a bag. If
they learn that anyone other than the traveler did, even if it
was a spouse, the bags will be searched.
   * Carry two forms of identification, including at least one with a
photograph, even for domestic flights. Airline employees are
required to match them to the ticket, boarding pass and at the
baggage claim. Carry your passport, even to destinations such as
Canada that do not require it.
   * Never leave bags unattended, especially inside a terminal. This
includes restaurant tables and near seats at the boarding gate.
     Security officers can confiscate them.
   * Don't wear metal jewelry and don't carry too many coins or keys
in pockets. Many airports have increased the sensitivity of their
security barriers. Travelers who don't clear the barrier after
two attempts can be subjected to a time-consuming search.
