CMS names new associate dean

Nancy McKeever Targett, a professor of marine biology-
biochemistry and member of the marine studies faculty since 1984, has
been named associate dean in the College of Marine Studies in Lewes,
succeeding marine biologist Charles E. Epifanio.
"Dr. Targett's leadership will help us continue to enhance and
optimize the effectiveness and efficiency of our research and
education endeavors," Carol Thoroughgood, dean of the college, said.
Targett received her bachelor's degree in chemistry and biology
from the University of Pittsburgh, her master's degree in marine
science from the University of Miami and her doctorate in oceanography
from the University of Maine.
She established the Chemical Ecology Laboratory at the Lewes
campus for the study of how chemicals influence the relationship
between organisms in the marine environment.
A member of the American Chemical Society and Sigma Xi, an honor
society for scientists and engineers, she recently was elected
councilor of the International Society of Chemical Ecology. She serves
on the editorial boards of Biofouling and the Journal of Chemical
Ecology.
Targett's husband, Timothy, also is a member of the faculty.
