Carrying the torch

Rain didn't dampen the enthusiasm of spectators who greeted torch
bearer Antonio "Tony" Bowe on June 19 as he carried the Olympic Torch
in Newark on its way to the Atlanta Summer Games, scheduled to begin
exactly one month later, on July 19. Robinson Hall was selected as one
of the rest locations for runners and escorts, and a brief ceremoney
there included remarks by President David P. Roselle and Newark Mayor
Ron Gardner.
A Special Olympics athlete who competes in power lifting and the
1994 Delaware Special Olympics athlete of the year, Bowe won three
gold medals at the 1995 Special Olympics World Games.
