Small Business Resource Center opens in Wilmington
Small business in northern Delaware now has a new and
multifaceted resource at hand with the June 14 opening of the new
Small Business Resource and Information Center at 1318 North Market
St. in Wilmington.
The new 5,000-square-foot, one-stop shopping center is located in
Wilmington's Enterprise Community. It provides information for those
looking for tips on how to start a business, wanting to expand a
business, needing to use a computer, seeking tax forms, loan or
license information, wanting to do business research or those who want
to talk to a counselor.
"Our goal is to gather all the tools an entrepreneur would need
at one location," Clinton Tymes, director of the Small Business
Development Center (SBDC), said. "Small businesses are the most
important economic drivers we have. They provide the products and
services that consumers want and create jobs so those same consumers
can earn a paycheck, make purchases and pay their taxes. We owe it to
ourselves to help small businesses succeed and strengthen our
society."
The Small Business Resource and Information Center offers
services in:
* An in-house training facility provides a comfortable and user-
friendly environment for seminars on a variety of topics,
ranging from the basics of starting a business to advanced
programs in cash flow planning.
* A library in the center provides research data from more than
500 business reference titles, including current business
periodicals, market research publications and census data.
* A state-of-the-art computer lab with seven computer work
stations features a variety of current business software and CD-
ROM-based research information, enabling entrepreneurs to
complete on-line market research or work on a business plan at
the center.
* One-on-one counseling is available with counselors from the
SBDC or the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE). All
counseling is confidential and free of charge, but an
appointment is required.
* Providing input on potential sources of capital are
representatives from the Small Business Administration,
Wilmington Economic Development Corp., the First State
Community Loan Fund/Working Capital Delaware and the Delaware
Innovation Fund.
A project of the Delaware Small Business Development Center
Network at the University of Delaware and in celebration of President
Bill Clinton's Empowerment Zone Initiative, the new center is a
partnership involving the U.S. Small Business Administration, state of
Delaware, the Delaware Economic Development Office, the New Castle
County Economic Development Corp., the City of Wilmington Enterprise
Community, the Wilmington Economic Development Corp. and the Small
Business Development Center.
