Electronic Reserves Pilot Project in Morris Library

A new Electronic Reserves Pilot Project in the UD Library now can
provide complete images of text, actual journal articles and other
course reserve materials in electronic form via the World Wide Web. In
the past, the library has made the reserve lists available
electronically, but not the information contained in the actual
readings.
As the first step in this pilot project, the reserve readings for
one graduate course, with sections in Newark and Georgetown, are
available. Access to electronic reserve materials is restricted to UD
faculty, students and staff.
"Education Finance" (EDDV 888) is participating in the pilot
project. Formerly entitled "Educational Planning and Budgeting," the
course is being offered during the first summer session by the
Department of Educational Development, and is taught by Yas Nakib.
The pilot project will test access, printing and production time
and costs for UD library staff to scan and digitize reserve materials
provided by faculty, and organize and format the materials to make
them available via the World Wide Web.
The project is in compliance with the Copyright Law and with Fair
Use Standards. The project for EDDV 888 can be found under the UD
Library home page (http://www.lib. udel.edu), which is under
"Libraries" on the main University home page.
Once the user is on the library home page, in the sections
"Collections and Services" select "Reserve," then select "Electronic
Reserves Pilot Projects "EDDV 888 (Education Finance)."
     The direct address is
http://www.lib.udel.edu/restricted/reserve/epilot/EDDV888
Access to the articles requires Adobe Acrobat software, which can
be downloaded from the "Electronic Reserves Pilot Project: EDDV 888"
page. Adobe Acrobat only needs to be downloaded once and there is no
charge.
UD faculty, students and staff can access Electronic Reserves on
any computer with World Wide Web access on the UD campus network, in
any UD microcomputing site or from home using PPP/ OnNet/Netscape
software and a UD computing account available from IT/User Services in
Smith Hall (831-6000).
University of Delaware users in Georgetown, Dover and Wilmington
can access Electronic Reserves at the UD microcomputing sites provided
by the Parallel Program and Continuing Education.
The Electronic Reserves Pilot Project will continue in 1996-97,
and faculty are invited to participate in the next stage for courses
to be offered in the fall semester.
Faculty interested in providing access to course reserve reading
for their students via the World Wide Web should contact any of the
following library personnel by July 1: Sandra Millard, 831-2231, e-
mail: Sandra.Millard@mvs.udel.edu; Nancy Nelson, 831-8135, e-mail:
