Up and coming

Art, photographs to be on display
The works of photojournalist Yan Xiao and painter Tzu-Wen Kwok
will be on display through June 30 in Clayton Hall. A reception,
including live music, will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, June 7, in
the Clayton Hall lobby.
The two artists vary dramatically in their style. Kwok paints
delicate watercolors that tend to be abstract, while Xiao produces
photographs that are intense and riveting. Their works were exhibited
together last June at the Chinese-American Community Center in
Hockessin.
Kwok studied painting in Taiwan and at East Tennessee State
University and Drexel University. She received an award for best work
and a first place in watercolor from the National League of Pen Women
Art Show in 1991 and 1993.
Xiao's photographs have been published in the United States and
his native China.
His work was featured in the Delaware Camera Club's International
Exhibition of Photography at Clayton Hall in February 1996.
The Clayton Hall gallery is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Mondays
through Fridays. Call 831-1259 for variable weekend hours. Call 831-
3063 for more information about the exhibit.

Delaware book exhibit in library
"Delaware in Print," a showcase of recent publications relating
to Delaware, is on display through Sept. 20 in the first floor
exhibition area of the Morris Library.
Curated by Iris Snyder, senior assistant librarian in the Special
Collections Department, the exhibition contains materials published or
printed in Delaware during the past several years, including books,
magazines and posters, as well as books by Delaware authors and
artists. A variety of publications relating to Delaware's history,
culture and daily life also are displayed.
"'Delaware in Print' provides a fascinating glimpse at the rich
assortment of books and other printed materials relating to Delaware
that have been published," Susan Brynteson, director of libraries,
said.
Featured items range from cookbooks and children's books to
scholarly and reference works. Books about such Delaware notables as
sports figures Dave Tiberi and Judy Johnson, DuPont Co. executive
Walter S. Carpenter and Civil War journalist George Alfred Townsend
also are included in the free public exhibition.

Book signing by faculty author
Bob Bethke, English, will hold a book signing from 4-6 p.m.,
Thursday, June 13, at the Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village in
Dover.
Bethke's new book is entitled Americana Crafted: Jehu Camper,
Delaware Whittler.
The late Mr. Camper's whittling collection was donated to the
museum, and his wife, Lillian Camper, will attend the book signing.
