Newark Nite celebration on Main Street Saturday
Newarkers and members of the University and neighboring
communities are invited to join in the Newark Nite celebration on Main
Street from 5-9:30 p.m., Saturday, June 8.
The annual street festival that attracts thousands of visitors
features something for everyone, including antique autos, jugglers, a
magician, a barbershop quartet and pony rides and food, dancing,
shopping and children's activities.
Live musical performances are booked on three stages, offering a
wide range of music for all tastes.
Performing in front of Speedy Muffler will be Mike Mason &
Southern Pride from 5-7 p.m. and Dallas and the Stillwater Band from
7:30-9:30 p.m.
Music also will be offered at the corner of Main and Academy
streets by Jerry Haines from 5-6:15 p.m., by Jerry Elderly and the
Juveniles from 6:30-8 p.m. and by Membhru from 8:15-9:30 p.m.
Performers lined up to sing on Main Street, in front of the UD
Mall, include Blain Newnum & Bluegrass Friends from 5-6:15 p.m., Larry
Unthank from 6:30-8 p.m. and Vic Sadot's Planete Folle from 8:15-9:30
p.m.
Free parking is available in Newark Parking Authority lots, in
the University of Delaware parking garage on Main Street and at the
Bob Carpenter Sports/Convocation Center parking lot off South College
Avenue. A free shuttle will be available between the Carpenter Center
and Main Street. The rain date for the event is Saturday, June 15.
Newark Nite sponsors include NuCar Pontiac, Super Fresh Food
Markets, the DuPont Co., SATURN of Newark, Dean Witter Reynolds and
Martin Dealership.
Newark Nite is co-sponsored by the Newark Business Association
and the city of Newark, in cooperation with the University of
Delaware.
