Medal of Distinction recognizes special friend
Former UD academic adviser Ada Leigh Soles received the
University of Delaware Medal of Distinction from Andrew B. Kirkpatrick
Jr., chairman of the Board of Trustees, at a ceremony May 7 at the
President's House, recognizing her commitment to the University, the
community, the state and the nation.
Soles, a representative of the Delaware General Assembly for 12
years, was recognized for her professional accomplishments, including
vital roles she has played as a teacher, as an academic counselor and
as a senior adviser to Gov. Thomas R. Carper. She also has been
involved in civic and community service activities with a number of
organizations.
Elected to the Hall of Fame of Delaware Women in 1993, Soles has
received the Good Government Award from the New Castle County Civic
League, the Liberty Bell Award and the Distinguished Legislative
Service Award from the Delaware Bar Association and the Excellence in
Public Service Award from the Democratic Party.
Soles received a national award from the White House Conference
of Libraries and Information Services for her "record of service,
support and commitment to libraries."
Her present responsibilities include appointments on the Training
and Development Advisory Board and the Delaware Higher Education
Commission.
In addition, she serves on the boards of directors of the
University of Delaware Library Associates, Delaware Meals on Wheels
and the New Castle County Library Advisory and Review Board.
The Medal of Distinction recognizes individuals who have made
humanitarian, cultural, intellectual or scientific contributions to
society, have achieved noteworthy success in their professions or have
given significant service to the community, state or region.
