UDRF announces '96-'97 awards
The University of Delaware Research Foundation has announced 12
awards for 1996-97, totaling $326,752.
Established in 1942 as the Haskell Research Associates, the
foundation supports fundamental research in all fields of science and
engineering and focuses on assisting junior faculty in research
projects in promising areas. The awards are determined by a committee
representing area industries.
The 12 award recipients are
* Richard J. Braun, mathematical sciences, "Phase Boundary Dynamics
Using a Multiple-Order-Parameter Theory," $14,700;
* Stephen Craig Cary, marine studies, "In Situ Geochemical
Characterization and Molecular Analysis of Marine Microbial
Communities," $29,375;
* Andrew P. Evans, chemistry and biochemistry, "Asymmetric
Synthesis of Mycalamide A and B," $30,000;
* Yan Jin, plant and soil sciences, "Measurement of Virus Sorption,
Inactivation and Transport in Porous Media," $28,446;
* John Lambros, mechanical engineering, "Strain Rate Effects on the
Fracture of Fiber Reinforced Composites," $29,267;
* John H. Martin Jr., animal and food sciences, "Use of Alum to
Reduce Soluble Phosphorus in Broiler Litter," $15,000;
* Eugene G. Mueller, chemistry and biochemistry, " The Enzymology
and Structural Ramifications of RNA Modification," $30,000;
* Jeffrey B. Rosen, psychology, "Seizures and Fear: Kindling-
enhanced Fear-potentiated Startle in Rats," $30,000;
