Tom Vacha named APPA officer
Tom Vacha, assistant vice president for facilities management,
has been elected president-elect of the Association of Higher
Education Facility officers (APPA) for 1996-97. The following year,
he will serve as president, then as immediate past president. All
positions are on the organization's board.
Vacha joined and has been an active member of APPA since 1974,
speaking at conferences, serving as vice president of professional
affairs in 1992 and holding positions on the board. He has
participated in facilities management evaluation programs, has been a
faculty member of the APPA Institute since 1989 and developed a guide
for prospective evaluators in facilities management evaluation
programs. He also has helped to prepare the third edition of APPA
Plant Administration Manual.
After working at Harvard University and the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology, Vacha came to UD in 1988 as director of plant
operations and was made assistant vice president in 1994. A graduate
of Northeastern University, Vacha also served in the Army Reserve,
retiring as a lieutenant colonel after 34 years of service.
