SERVICE

     Several members of the Department of Foreign Languages and
     Literatures were elected in April to two-year terms on the
     executive board of the Alliance Francaise of Wilmington: Lysette
     Hall, president; Theodore Braun, vice president; Alice Cataldi,
     chairperson of pedagogy committee. They join Bonnie Robb, who
     remains on the board.

     Sunil K. Agrawal, mechanical engineering, has been appointed an
     advisory editor of Multibody System Dynamics Journal, Kluwer
     Academic Publishers.

     R.M, Golinkoff, H. Rodney Sharp Professor of Educational Studies,
     was elected treasurer of the International Society for Infant
     Studies.

     David Onn, physics and astronomy, with Neel Beard of Hampden-
     Sydney College, coordinated a workshop April 20 for high school
     physics teachers from Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Titled
     "A New High Speed Digital Time for Kinematics and Related
     Laboratory Experiments and Demonstrations," the workshop was
     sponsored by the UD Department of Physics and Astronomy.

     John Brook, government and public relations, has been elected to
     the board of directors of the Committee of 100, a nonprofit
     business organization that promotes responsible economic
     development and addresses issues that affect Delaware's economic
     health. The Commitee of 100 was organized in response to problems
     in land-use planning and state and local finance.

AWARDS

     Ramiro Martinez Jr., sociology and criminal justice, was awarded
     a Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship for 1996-1997,
     administered by the National Research Council, and was selected
     to be a visiting scholar at Michigan State University and at the
     Immigration and Ethnicity Institute at Florida International
     University.
