Honors Weekend; Undergraduate Research Symposium May 4
Honors Weekend will feature the Undergraduate Research Symposium,
to be held from 9 a.m.-12:15 p.m., Saturday, May 4, in the Perkins
Student Center.
Sponsored by the University Honors Program and the Board of
Senior Thesis Readers, the symposium recognizes exceptional research
work at the undergraduate level and promotes student awareness of
undergraduate research possibilities.
Senior thesis programs have been enriched this year by the
activities of the Board of Senior Thesis Readers: 20 faculty members
who have been helping Degree with Distinction and Honors Degree
candidates share their research progress with one another.
The presentations will be given by seniors in these degree
programs.
Modeled on a professional conference, the symposium will begin
with a session of scientific posters and art and design exhibits at 9
a.m. At 10:15 a.m., Mary Richards, dean of the College of Arts and
Science, will give the keynote address.
From 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m., talks will be presented in eight
concurrent sessions, with an opportunity for questions from the
audience.
Members of the University community are invited to the symposium.
Attendance will be especially beneficial for those students
contemplating research and/or an enriched degree.
