HRAA house tour this weekend
Local examples of Colonial, contemporary and Georgian
architecture will be represented in the 10th annual house tour,
sponsored by the University's College of Human Resources Alumni
Association.
Scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, the tour will
feature nine homes in Newark, Hockessin and Landenberg, Pa.
Houses have been chosen for their individualized styling, unusual
collections, artistic gardens and historic interest.
A development house, customized by the owners, includes a large
game room housing a collection of antique slot machines, political
buttons and exercise equipment.
The 1925 Georgian home, with 14 rooms and five baths, recently
renovated by the owners, has the original calling service for
servants, which is still operational.
A country inn built in 1834, used as a tavern and coach stop for
17 years, is now the residence of owners who operate a trading company
offering unusual gifts and decorative accessories.
Other items of interest on the tour include a display of original
art work, a memorabilia room and a Japanese garden with ponds for fish
and plants.
House tour brochures will serve as tickets and may be purchased
for $10. For information, call 731-0526.
