Assistive technology to hold open house
An open house is scheduled from noon to 7 p.m., Thursday, April
25, in the Sussex County Assistive Technology Resource Center, located
on Delaware Technical and Community College's Owens Campus in
Georgetown.
The open house will feature demonstrations of educational uses of
assistive technology for educators, students and families. Tim Kavel,
acting vice president and campus director of Del Tech, will speak at 1
p.m.
Administered jointly by the University and the Alfred I. duPont
Institute of the Nemours Foundation, DATI is a federally funded
program established to increase access to assistive technology for all
Delawareans who need it. The goal of the center is to make assistive
technology available to help people pursue educational, vocational and
recreational goals.
The Sussex County center is one of three strategically located in
each of Delaware's counties, funded through DATI by the U.S.
Department of Education, National Institute on Disability and
Rehabilitation Research "Tech Act" projects.
DATI focuses on improving public awareness, providing access to
information on funding of assistive technology devices and services,
training and technical assistance.
Interpreters and special accommodations are available.
