Program on faculty in next century

As all American institutions, including college and universities,
move into a more competitive, resource-scarce global economy, what
will happen to the faculty of these institutions? What impact will
these changes have on teaching and learning at the university level?
How can faculty development help faculty and their institutions go
through this demanding process of transformation?
Frederick H. Gaige, campus executive officer at Pennsylvania
State University's Berks Campus, will pose these and related questions
on faculty development in the 21st century to a panel of University
representatives in a discussion sponsored by the Center for Teaching
Effectiveness (CTE).
The presentation will be held on Monday, April 29, from 12:30-
1:45 p.m. in the Ewing Room of the Perkins Student Center.
The panel will include Mary Richards, arts and science; Hal
White, chemistry and biochemistry, chairperson, CTE core advisory
board; Jim Butkiewicz, business and economics; and Larry Peterson,
music, chairperson of CTE technology board. They will respond to
Gaige's comments.
Gaige is former dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at
Fairleigh Dickinson University. He has given a number of papers and
workshops on long-range planning and faculty and administrative
development.
To attend, register at the Center for Teaching Effectiveness in
111 Pearson Hall or by e-mail at cte-reg@mvs.udel.edu. Registration
deadline is Wednesday, April 24. Pre-registered participants will be
