New committee members
Two new alumni members have been added to the University's
Athletics Visiting Committee-James Ford (left) Delaware '53, of Dover,
and Joe Purzycki, Delaware '71 '77M, of Wilmington.
Ford was a letter-winner on the Fightin' Blue Hens football team.
He is a former superintendent of the Delaware State Police and was
assistant to the president for college relations for several years at
Delaware Technical and Community College.
Purzycki was a three-year football letter-winner and captain of
the 1969 UD team.
He was a UD assistant football coach and head coach at Delaware
State and James Madison universities. Currently, he is an executive
vice president at MBNA America.
Visiting committees were created by the Board of Trustees in 1992
to draw upon the expertise of the larger community.
By broadening the base of community involvement, President David
P. Roselle, said, "The University enhances its understanding of
available options and communicates to a larger constituency what it
already is doing well."
The visiting committees report to various standing committees of
the board.
They met for the first time in the fall of 1992, and include such
other areas of interest as agriculture, architecture, audit,
investments, landscaping and land use.
