Fulbright professor is visitor to Institute of Energy Conversion

Issakha Youm, a lecturer in physics at the Cheikh Anta DIOP
University in Senegal, West Africa, and a 1991 doctoral graduate of
that insitution, has been conducting research as a Fulbright professor
in the Institute of Energy Conversion since March 1. Youm studied in
France under a French Government Fellowship from 1987-1991.
The University often serves as host to visiting Fulbright
Professors who conduct research and work with faculty and students.
Youm, who will be visiting until December, is working with Robert
W. Birkmire, institute director, and with members of the institute's
CdTe team. Youm's research will focus on ways to improve the
semiconductor properties of CdTe thin films that are used for solar
cells.
Youm also is developing the expertise to fabricate thin-film
solar cells, and he said he plans to develop a research program at his
university on thin-film solar cells when he returns to Senegal.
