Delaware leadership team earns national attention
A leadership team from the University of Delaware has been
selected as one of 24 nationally-the only one in the mid-Atlantic
region-to participate in the Constructing Physics Understanding in a
Computer-Supported Learning Environment project, funded by the
National Science Foundation.
Team members-David Onn, physics and astronomy; Mary Ann Wells,
Delaware '86 and a physics teacher at Christiana High School; and
Aletha Iona Ramseur, retired New Castle Middle School science teacher
and UD doctoral student in science education-will spend two summers at
San Diego State University, receiving training in the use of "next
generation" physics instructional software and helping in its
development.
The software is being designed for use by high school physics
teachers in their classrooms, and by elementary and middle-school
teachers to develop their own understanding of physics concepts to
incorporate into their general science teaching.
During the summers of 1997 to 2000 and possibly beyond, the team
will offer campus summer workshops for K-12 area teachers, as a part
of the University's commitment to science education in the state and
region.
