Campus construction update

     Construction activity has begun on the site of MBNA America Hall,
the new addition to the College of Business and Economics on Orchard
Road across from Purnell Hall. Excavation is currently being done to
prepare the area for foundation work, scheduled to be completed by
June 26.
     On the main Mall, a fence has been erected surrounding the site
of the new classroom building, Gore Hall, to be built between Mitchell
Hall and Sharp Laboratory. Relocation of utility lines in the site is
scheduled to begin April 24, in preparation for foundation work set to
begin Oct. 4.
     The pedestrian overpass across South College Avenue, from Smith
Hall to the site, also has been closed and will remain so throughout
construction of the building, since the walkway plays a part in the
design of the new building.
     The construction area will be closed until the building's
completion, scheduled for February 1998.
