Grammy-winning vocalist to perform on May 5

     Alison Krauss, 1996 Grammy winner for country female vocalist of
the year and the Country Music Association's 1995 female vocalist of
the year, will bring her band Union Station to the Bob Carpenter
Center for a concert at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, May 5.
     Tickets, which go on sale at 10 a.m., Saturday, are $15 for UD
students with ID (limit two), $17.50 for others with UD ID and $20 for
the general public. They can be purchased at the Bob Carpenter Center
and Perkins Student Center box offices and by phone through
Ticketmaster at 984-2000 or (215) 336-2000.
     Krauss, 24, has been winning awards since 1990, among them
several Grammies; International Bluegrass Music Association awards for
entertainer (1990 and 1995), album (1991) and female vocalist (1990,
1991, 1993 and 1995); and Country Music Association awards for female
vocalist, single and vocal event, as well as the group's coveted
Horizon Award. In 1993, she became the first bluegrass artist inducted
in the Grand Ole Opry in nearly 30 years.
     Her most recent recording on Rounder Records, Now That I've Found
You: A Collection, has gone platinum and attracted the attention of
media across the country, from Rolling Stone, which named her Country
Artist of the Year, to Spin to The Wall Street Journal. She also has
appeared on many national television shows, from CBS Sunday Morning to
Austin City Limits to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
     Krauss' other recordings include I Know Who Holds Tomorrow (with
the Cox Family), Every Time You Say Goodbye, I've Got That Old
Feeling, Two Highways and Too Late to Cry.
     She also has performed with such artists as Patty Loveless, Vince
Gill, Dolly Parton, Michelle Shocked, Emmylou Harris, Phish, Linda
Rondstat, Lorrie Morgan and Shenandoah.
     Krauss, who sings and plays fiddle, is joined in Union Station by
Barry Bales, acoustic bass and vocals; Adam Steffey, mandolin and
vocals; Ron Block, banjo, acoustic guitar and vocals; and Dan
Tyminski, acoustic guitar and vocals.
