Film festival on campus April 9
The Black Maria Film and Video Festival, a collection of cutting
edge offerings from independent film and video makers, will be
presented Tuesday, April 9, in Room 007 of the Willard Hall Education
Building.
Films in the festival, which travels around the country to
universities, museums and community organizations, will be shown at
4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.. The free public screenings will feature
different films.
The festival takes its name from Thomas Edison's New Jersey film
studio where the "movies" began. It is committed to offering a
showcase for those appreciative of film and video makers who are not
in the Hollywood periphery and may break new ground with socially
relevant, personal or artistically inventive topics. Selections are
chosen from over 850 submissions from both the U.S. and overseas.
The Black Maria is not a prepackaged festival. A local director
personally selects from the annual collection of 50 films and videos,
and introduces each program.
This event is sponsored by the Department of Art. For more
information, call 831-2244.
