Del. Archives friends established

The Friends of the Delaware Archives Inc., a non profit
organization in the state, has been established to give interested
persons an opportunity to support the Delaware Public Archives,
formely the State Archives, according to Jackie Skinner, president.
Skinner, who had been conducting geneological research on her own
and her husband's families at Delaware Public Archives for several
years, became aware that a new building was needed to house the public
records of more than three and a half centuries of Delaware history.
She circulated a petition throughout the state, creating
widespread support and interest, and, as a result, a new state-of-the
art-building for the archives was approved and will become a reality
this year in Dover.
After that success, Skinner formed the Friends of the Delaware
Archives to help with educational programming and publicity and
support research.
The public is invited to join the friends, as "stewards of
Delaware's irreplaceable documentary heritage."
