Senior center seeks volunteers

The Newark Senior Center is looking forward to an expanded
program to promote healthy and productive aging for older citizens
when it moves into its new home this spring at 200 White Chapel Drive.
However, community support is needed to help with essential services
for seniors.
According to Margaret Catts, director, when the center moves,
there will be an increased need for bus transportation for residents
who live near the present Main Street site. There also is an increased
demand for transportation for medical and dental appointments for
those in need.
The center's Meals on Wheels Program has grown. Last year, the
program served 25,450 meals, and an increase of 2,500 additional meals
is anticipated.
By late spring, the new Fitness and Aquatic Center in the White
Chapel Drive location will begin an exercise and therapy program,
planned to reach more than 200 individuals.
According to Catts, donations "will directly support programs
aimed to help older people maintain dignity and independence and
enhance their quality of living."
Donations may be sent to Newark Senior Center, 300 East Main St.,
Newark, DE 19711.
